One of the best aspects of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is that scenery such as bushes and grass do not disappear in the distance. This used to give me the sh!ts in Battlefield 2.
You thought you were being super sneaky hiding in a pile of bushes on top of a ridge, but from your opponents point of view, you are just a little black dot siting by your lonesome to be sniped.
Using more permanent bushes of BFBC2 makes a huge difference in selecting sniping positions around the map. Wearing a gilly suit also makes blending in among shrubbery a lot easier making you near ninja and hiding.
Unfortunately, not all maps have nicely positioned shrubs to hide in, especially the desert and snow maps. Below I’ll go through each map and show you some awesome places to hide and shoot. Some of them you may know, some you may not. Hope it helps you on your way to your 500 sniper kills.
Isla Innocentes
This map is one of the most notorious maps for full teams of snipers (esp. on the USA team). Knowing which points to shoot from can help avoid being shot by the many counter snipers situated around the place.
- USA: Take cover behind the bushes and ridge behind and to the West of the USA base. You will have to run through some no-man’s land to get there. You will get some great shots of other snipers on the South-West of the island.
- USA: From the US base head north and then west along the base of the cliff. Be sure to stay mobile and take cover behind the cliff between shots.
- Russia: Head down the back of the island to the lower area. From here you can cover point B as well as any boats and jet ski’s coming around the west side of the island.
- USA/Russia: Use the trees and low hills around this area to snipe in both directions. This spot can be hot or cold depending on the other players in the game.
- Russia: If you get pushed back to this base take refuge in this little shed. You can cover the water, the road and the island from here. A trick is to make a hole in the fence rather than use the shed window. Be sure to take cover between each shot.
- USA: This one is pretty simple and like 4 can be hot or cold depending on the game. Use the small step in the cliff for cover and also for hopping on top of when you want to get a clearer shot. Beware of nades and counter snipers from the hill along the West.
- Russia: Climb up the cliff near where the helicopter spawns. Follow the lip of the cliff through no mans land to the corner overlooking the MCOM. From here you should be able to counter sniper guys on 6 as well as defend attacks on both MCOMs.
Velapariso
This map is perhaps one of my favourite maps. It can be a bit of a snipefest but with good use of armour can be a fun map to crush the Russians.
- Russia: Camp along the bank here and take out any opponents coming up the flank. Keep your head down to avoid sniper fire from the centre jungle area. Also provides a close location to A to disarm any charges.
- Russia/USA: Ah the light house. I bet you already know about this one. My tip is to not just stand at one window, move around between them all. Also stand back from the window unless shooting, otherwise you will stick out to an enemy sniper like a sore thumb. Keep an eye on your map for incoming goons. If some enemies arrive, use your motion mines and pick them off with your pistol as they come up the stairs.
- Russia: Stand here, shoot the enemies attacking A and running up the road. Also a great place to C4 and artillery tanks.
- USA: This small outcrop of rocks provides you with just enough cover to shoot up the guts of the Russian base and take out any noobs. Watch out for fire across the water.
- Russia: At the end of this jetty there is a concrete foundation behind which you can hide. You can shoot at pretty much anything that tries to attack B through the water. You can also get a good artillery on a tank camped on the hill or snipers near the USA base.
- Russia: Well known spot. Sit on the hill and shoot. Try not to get shot in return.
- Russia: This is possibly my favourite sniping position in the game. Head to the road leading out the back of the Russian base, follow a small rise to your right (West) along the base of the cliff. You will come to a little area filled with plenty of shrubs that allows you awesome shots on attackers going to both MCOM stations. In hardcore mode you can use this location for a long time.
- Russia: This spot seems really out in the open, but with the commanding view it gives you, you can easily take out any counter snipers or infantry. Having the TOW and HMG there also allows you to take out any incoming tanks or helicopters.
Nelson Bay
This map has a crap-load of sniper locations. I’ve only listed the ones I use often and find fairly effective.
- USA: Climb up to the top of the tower. Keep moving around when not shooting. A medic and another sniper works well here. Have one sniper on the HMG and one sniping. (You can also use this point to attack A if you’re Russian).
- USA: There is a small building here that is fantastic for hiding unnoticed in. It is however quite susceptible to explosives so keep an eye of for engineers.
- Russia: As you attack keep following the river up from the bridge to this little lookout. Bushes around here make great hiding spots for covering your teammates.
- Russia: At the very North end of this line of concrete blocks you can find a great spot to peek around the end and take out unsuspecting attackers. Use your motion mines to detect incoming soldiers without sticking your head out.
- USA: This position is a classic sit in the building and defend. I’ve found the second floor works best. Keep your distance from walls and windows.
- USA/Russia: As USA use this small ledge to shoot down on opponents camping around it’s base and shooting rockets at B. If you can sneak around here when attacking it can be an awesome spot to hide as no one tends to look here.
Port Valdez
There are certain stages in Port Valdez were being a sniper it rather useless. This is due to buildings obstructing view as well as tight passes. You are better off at these times focusing on destroying/protecting the armour.
- Russia: The usual sniper spot on this map is the southern peak in the centre of the two roads. This can be a good spot but is usually raided often and covered by US snipers. I’ve found this spot to be much better. When you parachute down, land on top of the cliffs to your West. From here run around the edge til you reach this spot. You get a great view of the main road, the partially constructed building, attackers on the usual sniper spot and objective B.
- Russia: This pile of rocks provides great cover and a sneaky location to cover troops as they move up the flank.
- USA: Camping out in this building is great provided you don’t get spotted by a tank or engineer. You can get great views from the 2nd floor and the attic. You also can lay down HMG fire over B.
- USA: Same deal as 3. Pick off enemies as they come over the ridge.
- USA: This concrete wall and the rocks to the North of it provide excellent cover when picking of attacking enemy troops.
- Russia: If you enter this base around the eastern flank, make your way around behind these shipping crates. You will find it quite easy to take out snipers on the construction building as well as troops running across the helicopter pad.
- USA: Take up position under the pipes here and snipe men attacking along the eastern flank. You can also artillery enemy snipers and tanks that hang back.
Africa Harbor
This map kicks ass, plain and simple. No matter what class you like going, you can totally crush it on this map.
- USA: The cars and buses around here can create a great set of cover to move about in.
- USA/Russia: This spot is pretty well known amongst players. It was totally made for snipers so make good use of it, but be aware that other snipers are looking for you.
- USA/Russia: Jump in behind the rocks here to shoot anyone that goes near objective B.
- USA: There is a rock at the top of this hill. Carefully maneuver around the edges of this and take out any snipers on the roofs.
- Russia: Use the 2nd floor of this building to cover incoming troops. Stay away from the walls and don’t stand still too long.
- Russia: Same as 5 but less dangerous.
- USA: Cross the river around the West flank and sneak up behind this set of rocks. You should have a great view of both objects and you should also be able to flank enemy snipers.
Laguna Presa
In general, this map pretty much sucks for sniping. There is enough cover that you can run around on foot in a squad and engage your enemies in close combat. Never-the-less there is a few spots that I like using.
- USA: Cross the water on foot and take refuge in the small ditch that sits around here. From this point you have excellent shots at defenders around the bay.
- Russia: This house is a create place to take out incoming boats and troops. If you are feeling eager, take a walk along the cliff base to the East and take them out even earlier.
- USA: This spot is a little obvious, however drawing attention to yourself up here allows your teammates to flank the enemy along the North.
- USA: As you walk along the main road you will find a small pathway up the left hand side. I have barely ever seen anyone use this spot which is crazy because it gives you an awesome view of the Russian base (esp. point A).
- USA: A small line of rocks create a barrier down this hill. Cover can be taken from both sides depending what team you are on. Use these rocks as cover while you nail anyone defending point A.
- USA: Take a wide flank around the South-East edge of the map. You will have to run through no mans land for a couple seconds. You’ll reach point 6 behind a huge tree. You will get excellent flanking shots into the Russian base.
